Does Puppy Teething Pain
Upset Your New Friend?

puppy teething pain 01To ease puppy teething pain, your friend will tend to chew everything as their new teeth are coming through. During this time, your puppy's mouth can be quite sore but there are some simple things you can do to help with their pain and to prevent them from chewing your favorite shoes.

The best way to sooth your friend’s puppy teething pain is to give them a cold treat.

Usually frozen ice cubes or treats are great because they cool and numb their sore swollen gums that are being cut by their new teeth coming through. It may help if you pretend the ice cube is a treat as some puppies may not find them appealing.

If ice cubes don’t work, there are some great specific cooling Teething Toys on the market that do the trick and are as easy as adding water and putting in the freezer.

puppy teething pain 02 Coming home to find your new sneakers chewed and drooled on is definitely something you will want to avoid. Your puppy’s adult teeth are going to be growing through and chewing is a way that their teeth and jaws develop.

So this means no matter how much you don’t want them to chew on things, chances are they will.

Therefore teaching them what they can chew on and what they can’t is the way to go.

By providing your puppy with a suitable teething toy such as a Puppy Kong and praising your pup when he or she chews on it is great. Then when you find them chewing on shoes, furniture or anything else they can get their paws on, you should say “No!” and replace the item with their specific chew toy. This way your pup will learn quickly what is acceptable to chew on.

Not only is it important for your puppy to know what he or she can or can’t chew for the sake of your possessions but if they chew electrical cords or wiring this could have devastating effects.

puppy teething pain 03 Sometimes you may fall into the trap of letting your puppy have an old shoe or sock that they can tear and chew to bits.

You may not see the problem with this at first but unfortunately this is likely to portray to the pup that all shoes and socks are up for grabs and will probably turn this into a habit for your pup.

Unfortunately all puppies go through this teething stage.

There are some extra puppy chewing tips we have found worked for us. All you can really do is provide them with the right chew toys and help them with any puppy teething pain they may get.
