Get to know the Hound Dog breeds!

The hound dog breeds typically are used for hunting purposes due to their great senses. Many have a keen sense of smell or sight while others show intense stamina.

These qualities can obviously aid you in a hunting situation but these dogs also make great companions to have around your home.

To be an owner of a hound you need be aware of their specific traits. For example, if you own a scent hound (Beagles, Bloodhounds and other breeds) you should be aware that they have a tendency to follow their noses.

This can make it difficult for you to control your dog off lead without good training. If you want a sight hound, (Greyhounds, Saluki, and other breeds) you need to know that they have the ability to detect movement and are also great chase and capture dogs.

So it would be a good idea to take these characteristics into account when thinking of owning a hound dog as your next puppy.
