What average life span
of dog suits you?

what average life span of dog do you want

The average life span of dog breeds varies and is determined by many factors.

Before choosing the right puppies for you, finding out how long your new best friend is likely to live may be a good idea.

Whichever breed you choose, buying a puppy is taking on a long term commitment.

As a general, rule the larger the breed, the shorter the average life span of dog. Your massive Great Dane has a life expectancy of roughly 8 years, some are luckily enough to see 10.

If you have a smaller breed, such as the Jack Russell Terrier and Miniature Poodle, they will likely live up to 15 years of age or and possibly older.

When choosing the right puppy for you, considering the expected life span of your friend is important. You may want a large bounding dog but the idea of a shorter life expectancy could be a turn off.

On the opposite scale, if you want a dog that lives for 15 years, you might want to check your diary as it is a long term commitment.

Feeding your best friend a premium quality diet, exercising them regularly, and having regular veterinary check ups can extend the average life span of dog.

Using preventative care measures that your vet recommends, your dog will not only have a healthy life but hopefully a long one.

The genetic health issues of your puppy can play a part in how long they will be around. This is usually a result of conditions your dog’s parents suffer from.

It is important you know what to look for when buying a puppy. Some problems may affect your dog’s bone structure, others the internal organs and others may include skin, eye and ear problems.

For example, a lot of the larger dogs such as the Golden Retriever, Rhodesian Ridgeback, German Shepherds and many more commonly get Hip Dysplasia. This condition affects the hip joint, the femur bone no longer fits firmly in the socket of the joint causing a lot of pain in the back legs of these larger dogs.

If your dog has large bulging eyes like the Pug, they can be prone to getting prolapsed eyes. If your dog looks like they have too much skin, such as a Shar Pei or Bulldog, they could develop skin problems.

These health issues are not guarantees your puppy will develop any and or all of them. Not every Cavalier King Charles Spaniel will have heart disease and not every Chihuahua will have dental issues.

It is important to be aware of what your new family member may be prone to as you might be able to adjust its care or environment. This could aid in preventing health issues, but remember it is only a guide. The average life span of dog is different for every individual puppy.
