Do you think Australian Shepherd Puppies
are right for you?

Australian Shepherd Puppies 01 Australian Shepherd puppies, commonly referred to as Aussies, are just bursting with energy. They are perfect if you need a friend who can last the distance with you as you train, or purely to keep the pace on long walks.

Grooming time is minimal, this means it leaves more time for playing, just the way the Aussie likes it.

What size will Australian Shepherd puppies reach when fully grown?

An Aussie is generally a medium sized dog which is roughly between 46 to 58 cm (18 and 23 inches) tall. The head of an Australian Shepherd will generally meet the mid thigh of an adult and the back will be at your knee area.

australian shepherd puppies informationHow heavy will an Australian Shepherd grow to be?

Your healthy Australian Shepherd is usually between about 35-75 pounds (16 - 34kg). The females normally are on the lighter end of the scale with the males a bit heavier. Each individual pup will vary depending on their height as well.

What Colors do Australian Shepherd puppies tend to be?

Australian Shepherds have many different coat colorings which tend to come in different combinations. These include: blue merle, red merle, solid black or solid red and these can include white and tan markings. Some of the merle combination dogs can have blue or amber eyes as well.

Note: Merle colorings mean a type of patchwork combination.

How long is the Coat of an Australian Shepherd?

Aussies have a medium length double coat which can be straight or slightly wavy in appearance. The coat is smooth in places, such as the head, but feathered on other areas of these dogs’ bodies, such as the back of the forelegs. Surprisingly for a medium to long haired breed, they won’t take up too much of your time with grooming.

How long will I need to spend Grooming my Aussie?

Australian Shepherd Puppies 02 Aussies don’t require a huge amount of grooming. If you simply brush them regularly with a firm bristle brush it should do the trick and of course your dog will benefit from the occasional bath.

Your Australian Shepherd puppies will tend to shed at certain times of the year. During this shedding period they will benefit from you doing a little extra grooming to get rid of any dead hair from their coats.

Do Australian Shepherds have a long lifespan?

Aussies will typically live to be 12 years of age but if you provide good nutrition and care, it is not rare to see these breeds live to be 14. Of course this is dependent on how well you look after your adorable pup.

What sort of Temperament will an Aussie have?

Australian Shepherds are quite strong, alert and intelligent dogs. They love to herd and guard so they make great working dogs if you want them to be. With their great amounts of energy and stamina, they are fantastic at agility courses or just practicing tricks with you in the yard.

Australian Shepherd Puppies 04 Due to their strong work ethic and guarding nature, you do need to watch them around children.

However, as with most breeds, if you train and socialize them well as pups they will do fine with both children and other dogs.

How much Exercise will my Aussie need?

You will find the Australian Shepherd puppies to be very energetic. They love to play and run. You need to provide them with plenty of room to do so and take them on at least one long daily off lead walk.

They are at their best when they are able to compete in agility courses, obedience training, herding or even just getting involved with your family activities. They do have a tendency to want to herd anything that moves, especially young kids.

This can become annoying if you let them make a habit of it. Not to mention being told where to walk gets old very quickly!

Am I the Ideal owner for an Australian Shepherd?

Australian Shepherd Puppies 05 Ideally you will need a large backyard so your Australian Shepherd puppies can run and play. They will not do well in apartments.

They will suit a family situation as long you have socialized them well as a pup. The Australian Shepherds thrive on activities and will provide you with a great exercise partner should you be a gym fanatic.

Their loyalty, devotion and attractive appearance will have you loving them for many years.
